ashamedly from the earlier free-for-all jam sessions. Good tunes, often borrowed from the commercial dance-band libraries of the '20s, and coupled with simple Blues forms, are played with an increasing degree of dignity, allowing soloists to create in a sympathetic atmosphere. There are many excellent examples of this important music, and I would end naming one very favourite example, the Vic Dickenson Septet playing "Jeepers Creepers" and "Russian Lullaby" on Vanguard PPT 12000 with the talented white trumpeter Ruby Braff at his best. |
